ACTP RF experts in the role of international consultants of the UN Development Program will conduct a thorough audit of the free economic zones of Armenia

Andrey Shpilenko and Alexey Andreev as international experts of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and of the Association of Clusters, Technology Parks and SEZ of Russia went on a two-day visit to Armenia.

The purpose of their mission is to work out ways and methodology to increase the investment attractiveness of the economic zones of Armenia by the implementation of the cluster policy and developing infrastructure sites (free economic zones, technology parks, industrial parks).

The business trip began with meeting Deputy Minister of Economy of the Republic of Armenia Narek Teryan. The experts of the Association discussed the main goals, plan and results of their work, as well as its upcoming stages.

Andrey Shpilenko, Director of the Association of Clusters, Technology Parks and SEZ of Russia, and Aleksey Andreev, Head of Infrastructure Development, will conduct a thorough audit of the free economic zones in Armenia to assess the high value of investment attractiveness. In the course of their work, they will explore whether Armenia has the necessary tools to expand and develop free economic.

«We also agreed that the ACTP RF team will conduct an in-depth analysis of three key industrial sectors for the Republic of Armenia - pharmaceuticals, food industry and radio electronics. After that, we will develop the most effective methodology and action plan to attract investors to important stages and specific projects. Deputy Minister Narek Teryan confirmed that the ministry is waiting for our conclusions and recommendations, positively looks at the opportunities that are opening up», – Andrey Shpilenko said. 

Currently the Republic of Armenia in partnership with the United Nations Development Program is working to achieve the sustainable development goals for the period up to 2030, including the goals of creating infrastructure, promoting sustainable industrialization and innovation.

Free economic zones (FEZs) are one of the key tools for sustainable development and attracting investment in the industry by providing entrepreneurs with reliable and high-quality infrastructure, which allows creating new jobs and helping to improve the living standards of the local population. There are currently four free economic zones in the Republic of Armenia: FEZ «Alliance»; FEZ «Meridian», FEZ «Meghri», FEZ «ECOS».
